China's aviation sector reported an ¥8 billion ($1 = ¥6.8) profit in the year through September 12, compared to a ¥28.2 billion loss for the whole of 2008, the Civil Aviation Administration of China said Monday. The industry booked ¥129.6 billion in revenues and ¥4.86 in profit for the first six months after domestic passenger handling was up 20.4% from a year earlier. Passenger flown in August by China Southern Airlines (NYSE: ZNH, SHA: 600029, HKG: 1055) and China Eastern Airlines (NYSE: CEA, SHA: 600115, HKG: 0670) climbed 33.3% and 57.2% year-on-year respectively. Southern Airlines chairman Si Xianmin foresees a better second half than the first, during which the nation's largest carrier netted ¥38 million from ¥25 billion in revenue.
