"Little Sheep " .........oups !

Little Sheep Group Ltd , China's largest hotpot restaurant chain, received a notice from the Ministry of Commerce that the antimonopoly review of Yum! Brands Inc's (NYSE: YUM) takeover of it will be delayed for 60 calendar days.
Yum agreed in May 2011 to acquire Little Sheep for HK$4.56 billion, and submitted the plan to the Ministry of Commerce for antimonopoly review, which was formally accepted on June 27.
There have been worries that the ministry would block the deal to prevent a likely monopolistic positioning of Yum in the Chinese fast food market.
The delay stoked uncertainty over the deal, weighing on Little Sheep's shares that closed down 13% on Wednesday to the lowest point since the deal was announced in May. Yum declined to comment.
According to China's Antitrust Law, the first-phase assessment of a case lasts up to 30 calendar days, and if necessary, the Ministry of Commerce could opt for a second phase lasting up to 90 calendar days; and if necessary, the 90 days could be extended for an additional 60 calendar days. The 90-day second-phase assessment of the Little Sheep case ended on October 25.
"The delay does not mean the deal will not be allowed to proceed," Wang Zhile, head of the Multinational Corporations Research Center of the Commerce Ministry, told the 21st Century Business Herald. "Perhaps more documents are required to be handed over."
An analyst with a foreign-funded securities brokerage said that the Ministry of Commerce might need to take a longer period to assess this case due to scarce data for the hotpot industry.
Yum currently operates some 3,200 KFC restaurants, 500 Pizza Hut restaurants and 100 delivery stores in China; its revenue from the country was ¥33.6 billion last year. Little Sheep has almost 300 restaurants and posted ¥2 billion in revenues in 2010. Their revenue combined accounted for just 2% of dining-out receipts in China, according to Pei Liang, secretary-general of the China Chain Store & Franchise Association.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is exploring security systems that would permit employees to use as many as 100,000 mobile devices, including Apple Inc. (AAPL)’s iPad and phones using Google Inc. (GOOG)’s Android, without endangering the privacy of sensitive information.

VA officials are researching “mobile device management” services that will protect e-mail and control access to agency computer networks for people using smartphones and tablet computers, according to a VA request for information issued last week and updated today. “We want to make sure that veteran information is protected while still enabling productivity enhancing applications,” Roger Baker, the agency’s chief information officer, said in an e-mailed statement.

The VA’s decision may open a new market for Apple, which has until now lagged behind competitors Dell Inc. (DELL) and Research In Motion Ltd. (RIM) in selling technology to the government. The VA is looking for technology that would allow its employees to use as many as 100,000 iPads and iPhones within 18 months, including a mix of government-owned and personal mobile devices.

mauvais timing

“it’s been frustrating to see our original investment thesis validated, yet not profit from it. It certainly highlights the importance of getting the timing right and maintaining your conviction even when the market moves against you. The core of our short thesis was always Netflix’s high valuation. In light of the stock’s collapse, we now think it’s cheap and today established a small long position. We hope it gets cheaper so we can add to it.”

ça passe où ça....

e-commerce China

Turnover of e-commerce transactions in China amounted to ¥1.8 trillion in the third quarter of this year, up 47.6% from a year earlier and up 9.1% from a quarter earlier, according to iResearch, a consultancy.
Behind the robust growth was the summer vacation and the Mid Autumn Festival, which have fueled online bookings for hotels and air tickets, and e-commerce websites which have made special offers available between July and September, iResearch said.
Online shopping receipts rose 73.4% year on year and 11.5% quarter on quarter to ¥197.51 billion in the third quarter, iResearch added.
Online shopping receipts are expected to grow between 15% and 20% or up to ¥230 billion during the fourth quarter, with the value of B2B deals - which were up 40.3% year on year and 8% quarter on quarter to ¥3.48 billion in the third quarter - to exceed ¥4 billion, iResearch predicted.

Spherix Incorporated (NASDAQ: SPEX) announced that SPX-106T (the combination of D-tagatose and SPX-106) reduced dyslipidemia in new studies of apolipoprotein E-deficient mice and Syrian Golden hamsters. This finding corroborates data obtained in LDL receptor-deficient mice (see Spherix press release of September 8, 2011). Additionally, a new study in rats demonstrates that D-tagatose inhibits fructose absorption in the gastrointestinal tract, providing further insight into the mechanism of action of SPX-106T.SPX-106T significantly reduced VLDL and LDL cholesterol in LDL receptor-deficient mice fed normal chow. In apolipoprotein E-deficient mice fed a Western (high fat/high carbohydrate) diet, SPX-106T significantly reduced serum cholesterol by 30% (-307 mg/dl; p<0.05), prevented body weight gain (p<0.05), and significantly reduced the amount of subcutaneous, retroperitoneal, and epididymal fat (77, 90, 85% reductions, respectively, p<0.01) (see photo). SPX-106T did not affect the weight of other organs (heart, spleen, etc.). A recent range-finding dose study in hamsters fed the same Western diet and given SPX-106T provided evidence that the combination was effective in reducing serum triglycerides.

YAHOOGLE
