Given this movie's INSANE advance tickets sale , we had a feeling it would have a record-breaking opening weekend!

Based on initial tracking, both box-office observers AND exhibitors are saying that The Hunger Games could make close to $100 million during its opening weekend in the U.S.!

HG is tracking well with both men and women, although it's tracking BEST with females under 25 years old.

The first twilight movie opened to nearly $70 million. Should be interesting to see if Hunger Games surpasses it!

Collusion

The Justice Department has warned APPLE Inc. and five of the biggest U.S. publishers that it plans to sue them for allegedly colluding to raise the price of electronic books, according to people familiar with the matter.

Several of the parties have held talks to settle the antitrust case and head off a potentially damaging court battle, these people said. If successful, such a settlement could have wide-ranging repercussions for the industry, potentially leading to cheaper e-books for consumers. However, not every publisher is in settlement discussions.

The five publishers facing a potential suit are CBS Corp.'s Simon & Schuster Inc.;LAGARDERE SCA's Hachette Book Group;PEARSON PLC's Penguin Group (USA); Macmillan, a unit of Verlagsgruppe Georg von Holtzbrinck GmbH; and HarperCollins Publishers Inc., a unit of NEWS CORP , which also owns The Wall Street Journal.

Spokespeople for the five publishers and the Justice Department declined to comment. Apple, which introduced a new version of its iPad tablet Wednesday, declined to comment.

The economy likely recorded a third month of solid job gains in February, which could further reduce the chances of additional monetary stimulus from the Federal Reserve.

Employers probably added 210,000 jobs to their payrolls last month, according to a Reuters survey, after creating 243,000 new positions in January. The unemployment rate is expected to have held at a three-year low of 8.3 percent.

It would be the first time since early 2011 that nonfarm payrolls have increased by more than 200,000 for three straight months and could be a boost for President Barack Obama, who hopes to win a second-term in office in November.
