 The latest "Call of Duty" videogame had worldwide sales of more than $500 million in the first 24 hours of its release, a new record, game publisher Activision Blizzard Inc  said on Friday.

Shares of Activision rose about 3 percent following the news, even after the company said it remains cautious about the rest of 2012 and 2013 due to the macro-economic environment.

The note of caution likely means Activision is preparing to provide 2013 financial targets that are below Wall Street expectations, Brean Murray, Carret & Co analyst Todd Mitchell said. But he expects a strong fourth quarter.

"The combination of the strong 'Call of Duty' and good indications on 'Skylander' (another Activision game) points to a very strong quarter," Mitchell said.

"Call of Duty" represents "the biggest entertainment launch of the year for the fourth year in a row.

The Young-Davidson gold mine is located near the town of Matachewan, approximately 60 km west of Kirkland Lake in Northern Ontario. The property consists of contiguous mineral leases and claims totalling 11,000 acres and is situated on the site of two past producing mines that produced one million ounces in the 1930s–1950s.

 During October, the Young-Davidson mine produced 9,177 gold ounces. Production from the initial two stopes in the Upper Boundary Zone began in the latter part of October. During Q4 the company has targeted mining 90,000 tonnes at grades in excess of 3 grams per tonne gold, including the 12,000 tonnes mined in October at grades averaging 4 grams per tonne gold. Mill feed grades are continuing to increase, through a combination of higher grade open pit ore and the initial production contribution from the underground. The mill facility continued to operate at target levels during October. Raise boring of the second leg of the Northgate shaft is progressing well and is expected to be completed in early 2013. Structural work for the new headframe will be completed before year end, with mechanical installations completed in 1Q13. Construction of the mid-shaft crushing and loading infrastructure is on schedule for commissioning by mid-year 2013. th

Il y a cinq ans, le géant du commerce en ligne échouait à s'implanter en Chine, victime de la concurrence du groupe chinois Alibaba, et incapable de s'adapter aux spécificités du marché. Aujourd'hui, il tente un retour par la petite porte. Plutôt que de proposer une offre diversifiée, eBay s'associe avec le vendeur en ligne chinois Xiu.com. Le but étant de passer par ce dernier pour vendre des marques occidentales haut de gamme, dans l'habillement, les sacs à mains et les chaussures. Les marchands seront ceux du réseau eBay, tandis que Xiu.xom se chargera de la transaction, de l'acheminement de la commande et de la relation client.

Le but, pour eBay, est de reprendre pied sur l'un des marchés les plus dynamiques de la planète. Selon les études de Forrester Research, le volume des ventes du commerce en ligne chinois devrait plus que doubler d'ici 2016 pour atteindre alors 356 milliards de dollars. Les taux de croissance sont effectivement impressionnants, comme en témoigne le chiffre d'affaires réalisé par Taobao, le site leader chinois, propriété d'Alibaba, sur sa grande journée promotionnelle du 11 novembre dernier : 19 milliards de yuans, contre 5,2 milliards un an plus tôt, et moins de 2 milliards en 2010.

Research in Motion Ltd.  today announced that its newest smartphones and operating system — BlackBerry 10 — would launch worldwide on January 30. The Canadian-based company said it will introduce two new smartphones that use the BlackBerry 10 OS, but will not reveal details of the phones or their availability until the launch date.

En plein Congrès du Parti communiste chinois, les censeurs du web ont intensifié leur lutte contre la propagation d'informations potentiellement dangereuses, ce qui rend la connexion aux sites étrangers souvent extrêmement laborieuse. Mais une fois de plus, Google est la cible principale de cette campagne. Le moteur de recherche s'était mis à dos le régime chinois en 2010 lorsqu'il avait annoncé qu'il allait fermer la version chinoise de son moteur de recherche -une version qui était obligée de se plier aux consignes locales de filtrage -pour rediriger les internautes vers sa version hongkongaise, non bloquée. Depuis, il n'a cessé de perdre des parts de marché, victime d'attaques jamais avérées mais flagrantes pour tous les usagers, en même temps que son concurrent chinois Baidu renforçait son offre et proposait des services d'une qualité toujours améliorée. 

Cette fois, Google annonce avoir effectué des recherches de son côté pour comprendre les interruptions de service qu'il rencontre sur le réseau chinois et dit n'avoir « trouvé aucun problème émanant de notre responsabilité ».

Leon's Furniture Ltd. and the Brick Ltd. have entered into a definitive agreement that provides for the acquisition of the Brick by Leon's by way of a plan of arrangement for $5.40 per share. Leon's will also acquire all of the outstanding common share purchase warrants of the Brick for $4.40 per warrant. 

The total consideration payable to Brick shareholders and warrantholders is approximately $700-million.

The share consideration represents a premium of approximately 62 per cent to the 20-day volume-weighted average price of the Brick's common shares on the Toronto Stock Exchange as of Nov. 9, 2012. The warrants, which have an exercise price of $1 and expire on May 27, 2014, had a closing price on the TSX of $2.36 on Nov. 9, 2012. The closing price of the Brick shares on the TSX on Nov. 9, 2012, was $3.50.

Leon's and the Brick will continue to operate as separate banners out of offices in Toronto and Edmonton. Terry Leon will remain as chief executive officer of Leon's and will be CEO of the combined entity. Vi Konkle, president and CEO of the Brick, will continue as president of the Brick. Bill Gregson, currently executive chairman of the board of the Brick, has agreed to stay on in an advisory capacity. It is anticipated that Mr. Gregson will join Leon's board in due course. Mark J. Leon will continue to serve as the chairman of the board of Leon's.

Une guerre réglée

Le géant américain de APPLE et le taïwanais HTC ont annoncé hier être parvenu à un accord mettant fin à tous leurs contentieux pour violations de brevets dans le monde. 

« HTC et Apple ont conclu un accord global qui prévoit l'abandon de toutes les poursuites judiciaires en cours et un accord de licences sur 10 ans », ont annoncé dans un communiqué commun les deux groupes qui se livraient depuis des années une guerre sans merci pour le contrôle des technologies dans le domaine des smartphones et des tablettes tactiles.

Les termes de l'accord sont confidentiels, précise le très bref communiqué commun. Il couvre les brevets actuels et futurs des deux parties. « HTC est heureux d'avoir réglé ce différend avec Apple. Le groupe peut maintenant concentrer ses efforts sur l'innovation, plutôt que sur les litiges », a commenté le directeur général de HTC, Peter Chou, cité dans le communiqué. « Nous sommes contents d'être parvenus à un accord avec HTC », a indiqué de son côté le directeur général d'Apple, Tim Cook. « Nous resterons concentrés sur les produits innovants ».

 HTC avait déposé plusieurs plaintes contre Apple. En juillet dernier, le taïwanais affirmait ainsi que les MacBook Air, MacBook Pro et iPhone, trois produits du groupe américain, violaient deux brevets acquis l'an dernier par le Taïwanais auprès de Hewlett Packard.

De son côté, Apple poursuivait HTC devant plusieurs juridiction, notamment la Commission du commerce international (ITC) qui avait ordonné en décembre 2011 à HTC d'arrêter l'exportation vers les Etats-Unis de certains appareils qui reproduisaient illégalement des technologies brevetées par Apple. Ces technologies permettaient notamment à un téléphone portable de reconnaître un numéro de téléphone dans un message électronique, offrant à la possibilité de le composer ou de le sauvegarder dans son répertoire.
