PEP et SODA

PepsiCo Inc. has denied rumors that it plans to buy SodaStream International Ltd., but that's done little to dampen investor frenzy Thursday for the Israeli company's stock.

THE SPARK: A report in an Israeli newspaper said that PepsiCo Inc. is in talks to buy SodaStream, which makes at-home carbonation machines.
PepsiCo said Thursday that the report is "completely and totally untrue." However, that didn't stop the stock from surging before the market open and maintaining most of its gains through midday.
A representative for SodaStream said the company doesn't comment on rumor or speculation.
THE BIG PICTURE: SodaStream's machines let people make fizzy water at home, with a variety of concentrated flavors that can be added to create different beverages. The company has been making a push to grow in the U.S., in part by targeting the wastefulness of the cans and bottles generated by Coca-Cola Co. and PepsiCo.

rumors

May bloggers expect Apple  to unveil its long-awaited streaming music service during the World Wide Developers Conference next week. Is this wishful thinking, or will the rumors turn out to be accurate?

"There are plenty of radio services out there right now, so clearly there is a market for it, and that is where the market is moving for at least a segment of the marketplace," BGC analyst Colin W. Gillis told Benzinga.
Gillis did not want to speculate about whether the company will or won't announce a music service next week, but said that it is "very reasonable that Apple would want to participate in that" market.
ABG Sundal Collier analyst Per Lindberg is not convinced that iRadio will be unveiled next week.
"The iRadio and iWatch and iTV may come one day," he told Benzinga. "When Apple decides to unveil that, that is beyond my predictability. There's something the company will unveil next week, otherwise they wouldn't have a conference."
Even if Apple decides to unveil a radio service next week, some investors may remain on the sidelines.
Brett Golden, President and co-founder of "the chart lab" (a provider of quantitative advice solutions for retail and institutional investors), said that while iRadio could add a little something to earnings, he does not expect it to be groundbreaking by any means.
"That's not what is going to drive earnings," Golden told Benzinga. "How much does iTunes drive earnings? It's extremely meaningful in terms of any other company, but that's not what's driving the price of the stock or expanding the multiple. I don't think iRadio is going to expand the multiple either."
Golden said that the company needs to produce a revolutionary product or service that makes the consumer say, "I'm going to open my wallet and I'm going to buy this because I can't get it anywhere else."
"That's originally what the iPhone was and the iPad," he said. "But now the market is saturated and I can get the same technology basically almost anywhere else, maybe for cheaper. Is it as good? Maybe not. Maybe the quality is not as good. But that's why everybody is talking about, 'What are they going to do next?'"
Golden noted the hype for Apple's long-awaited television set, which has yet to materialize.
"Everybody has been talking for two years about the television and if they'll do something with the cable companies to provide something revolutionary, kind of like an ad hoc, a la carte programming," he said. "But I don't know."
Ultimately, Golden has serious doubts about Apple's near-term success.
"Throwing your money into Apple right now, you're going to kind of sit there, hope and pray, and that's not a great strategy," he concluded. "You're going to hope that the stock goes up because you're hoping that they come out with something revolutionary. For me, that's just not how I invest.
"The truth is, the longer you're in the market, the longer you're in a stock that doesn't work, the more risk you're taking."

Games developer Zynga has said it plans to cut 520 jobs and warned that it expects wider losses than it previously estimated.

The cuts, which represent about 18% of its workforce, come after the company shed 5% of its staff in October.
Zynga is one of the pioneers of social gaming but has struggled to replicate the success of its Farmville series.
It said it now expects to make a loss of between $28.5m to $39m  in the April to June quarter.
That is worse than the projection of a loss of between $26.5m and $36.5m the company had issued earlier this year.
The firm also warned that sales of in-game virtual goods were likely to come in at the lower end of its estimate.

from seeking alpha

I believe Nokia offers a lucrative long-term opportunity. I am a contrarian investor at heart. I tend to gravitate towards large-cap stocks that are confronted with pessimistic outlooks from most investors.

I posit the company is on the cusp of a turnaround. The stock is at an inflection point. The stock just successfully tested long-term support at the $3.00 level. See the chart below.

The stock has gone on a nice run as of late. This may be due to prescient investors seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. After a very rough 2012, the company is projecting a return to profitability in 2013. There are several factors impacting the bottom line.
  • Transition to the windows phone platform -- Nokia should complete the transition from its legacy Symbian smartphone operating system to the Windows Phone platform very soon. This should vastly improve the customer experience and cut costs.
    • Introduction of Lumia 928 is driving sales-- Nokia has two new flagship phones. The Lumia 928 for the U.S. and the 925 for the rest of the worldThe Lumia 928 was recently released and available with Verizon. Check out this video of the phone . For all intents and purposes, it is the first true flagship Lumia to bear Big Red's branding. The 928 no longer has the smooth polycarbonate unibody of the 920. The shell is more hard-edged and angular, yet still plastic.
      • The success of the Lumia 925 will be the linchpin-- The Lumia 925 is expected out in June and sells for 469 euros. Unlike the 928, available in the U.S. only, this phone is setting its sights on the rest of the world. The Lumia 925 is Nokia's flagship phone for the rest of the world, most importantly Europe. With the eurozone seemingly pulling itself up by its boot straps, I posit the sales of the 925 will beat expectations, lifting the stock.
      • Expectations are extremely low-- The expectations for Nokia are extremely low. This is a key factor in my bullish thesis. It does not matter if the company has a gain or loss, it matters by how much it exceeds or misses expectations. With expectations set so low, I believe Nokia will have no problem besting estimates.
      • The stock is undervalued fundamentally-- Nokia has a price to book ratio of 1.39. The company has $3.62 in cash per share and book value per share is $2.68.

Campbell Soup is one of the largest soup makers in the world. Campbell's products are sold in more than 120 countries around the world. The company maintains around 70% market share of the "wet" soup market in the United States, and it holds leading market positions in Canada, Germany, France and Australia.
About the Acquisition:
Campbell Soup has recently announced that it is acquiring Plum Organics, Inc., which makes organic food for babies and children. This is its latest move to enter into this faster-growing market. The company had been struggling to increase sales of its canned soups in recent years because many people increasingly prefer foods with a fresher feel. To diversify its stable of products, Campbell also recently purchased Bolthouse Farms, which makes premium juices, salad dressings and bagged carrots. The company said that Plum Organics generated $93 million in sales last year. The acquisition will bring Campbell's portfolio of baby foods to $1 billion in annual sales.

Organic baby food market:
Organic food is one of the fastest-growing sectors in the food industry, mostly in developed countries. The global demand is increasing due to the fact that parents want to feed their babies healthier foods. These organic baby foods cost more when compared to the normal baby food available on the market, but parents are willing to pay more for the "feel good" factor. According to the consumer market research firm Mintel, organic baby food made up about 10 percent of the $1,4 B  U.S. baby food and snacks market in 2011.
According to Campbell Soup, the premium and organic baby food market has been growing at an annual rate of 43 percent and baby food is a $2 billion category in the United States, with Plum holding the No. 4 position in the market.

Si il y a une prise de profit sur les marchés cet été,un stock comme
Campbell soup pourrait aller fermer son gap du 14 février...donc un excellent point d'entrer.

A Japanese broadcaster is reporting that a sensor problem was found in one of the exchanged batteries for a Japan Airlines Boeing 787 jet. The Boeing Co. jets had been grounded for four months until their safety could be reconfirmed.

NHK TV says the problem emerged Sunday in a sensor that detects overheating in the modified version of the lithium-ion batteries used in the aircraft. The batteries were encased to prevent overheating from spreading.
